I taught my first live yogaclass yesterday after 2 months&I gotta tell you, I was SHITTING MY PANTS right before it started. I'm always nervous before I teach & I bet nobody even notices that. I guess it's a good thing that I'm still nervous. I want people to enjoy my classes. And probably being nervous helps me to be completley focused. I need the stakes to be high ! Everytime I worked in a job where I'm not "on stage" I'm getting sloppy, uninvolved and I'm not really in the moment. When I'm teaching I'm absolutley there for you! My mind is completley in the now ! I'm not having thoughts like "when is this day over!?" or " what am I going to eat when I'm home?" Teaching Yoga is one of the first and only jobs that I absolutley love! . Do you love your job or do you sometimes wish, you could've done something else ? 💫 Even though I have been ‘in the system’ since I was 4 years old, even though I have had the privilege to work with some super duper incredible people in their field, even though I have tried and tested extensive sides from both the medical and psych-social model for mental health, even though the only books and podcasts I indulge in are wellbeing because I am fascinated, and even though I am very well…It does not mean that I do not struggle and I do not get sad sometimes. 💫 A gentle reminder that the goal isn’t necessarily happiness, but a way of building an emotional resilience to the tougher bits of life through continuing to know myself, learning, failing and trying again. 💫 If the goal is happiness, the pressure on being consistently happy is huge and we disallow the negative feelings (because it goes against the ‘end target’, right?) BUT, Rather counter-intuitively, the more capacity we give to sadness, the more we give to our happiness. We can’t feel one emotion and not the other. Sadness is there so that happiness can be felt. There is only a master volume; disconnect with pain, and you may disconnect with your happiness. I feel great pain, and I’m feeling pretty blugh right now - and that means for me, that the sun is coming so soon. What goes down, must go up…(with hard work lol sorry) 🧡 . The science: when become anxious or stressed your sympathetic nervous system is activated resulting in shallow breathes. By mindfully taking slow breathes and repeating this exercise your parasympathetic nervous system is reactivated. The result? A more relaxed state. . How? It’s simple. Inhale for 4 counts, hold your breathe for 4 counts, exhale for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts. Repeat this atleast 4 times but you can do it as many times as you need to. . How can I apply this to a dental scenario? The most stressful thing I find about dentistry is that we have to face our challenges head on - no “I’ll go for a 5 minute walk to clear my head” or “I’ll do something else for a bit then come back to it”. The patient is right there, in your chair, and you have to do something. In these moments I find square breathing so useful, especially because you can do it so easily anywhere at any time! I also find it really helpful if I’m tackling a difficult extraction. . To me, this talks about our connection, and that we are all one. It reminds me that whatever choices we make, affects everyone, as the collective consciousness. Lately my emotions are on a roller coaster ride and I really have to be more conscious of how that is not only effecting me but also affecting others. So when I see that it is negative and not supporting anyone, I take three deep breaths and that allows my thinking to change and assists me in being more centered, grounded and in balance. Well, start with this chart! It can show you how knowing your language, and hopefully your partner’s love language can help you communicate and show your love most effectively. It can also help you know what to avoid. For example, one of my son’s primary love language is Words of Affirmation. He responds best to encouraging words. So, attending his games, giving him gifts, or doing his laundry doesn’t mean much to him. It’s as if I’m telling him “I care!” but in a foreign language that he’s not fluent in. But if I say something like “out of all the boys in the world, how did I get lucky enough to have you as my son?” he HEARS IT, and grins ear to ear. This also means if I’m harsh with my words to him, it hurts and cuts deeply. As a yoga teacher, I pride myself on creating flows that are ever changing, creative and outside of the box that many of us get stuck in. I’m so tired of teaching variations on sun salutations, teaching the same old standing postures. We are all guilty of the autopilot yoga sequences. Doing the same poses, not even thinking about what it feels like because you’ve done this pose 10,000x. So here’s a real flow of mine. I didn’t plan it, I never do. I just step on the mat and find my breath. Once my attention is focused on my breathing, I ask myself, “what do I need right now?” And my body answers. I often ask “hm, where could I go from here?” Or “how can I make this pose feel different?” Or “what if just move my foot this way or do this on my toes instead?” There are endless ways to create new sensations. So I’m constantly chasing new feels... only then do I really feel that I’m truly “doing yoga.” Remember, yoga is just a connection of the mind and the body. When you are 100% focused on what your body is doing, that’s yoga. It doesn’t matter what the movement is. If I could give any students or yoga practitioners advice: it’d be to stop THINKING so much and let your body be the teacher. Half marathon: COMPLETE!!! “27 days ago Sophia and I set out to challenge ourselves for the month of May. We were dreading the day we would be faced with the half marathon, but I’m so PROUD to say we have completed it! Our first half marathon ever - for each of us. MAKE the time and CREATE the space! And by create I mean get creative. I’ve been finding it challenging to record lately. Right now my content is guided meditations and breathing techniques so needless to say a quiet environment is essential to a successful recording. Recently I feel both inside and outside of the house things are getting a little louder. (Even more of a reason to practice!) Backbends are my favorite. Somehow they reasonate with me the most. They ask from us the vulnerability. The courage to expose all our fears and lay our hearts naked. It teaches us to let go of our inner resistance. It tells us how in the moment of pain, we close ourselves, when all that moment needed was one more breath. One more breath to not let our stimulation to pain make us naturally run away as a response. It makes us soften and open up while containing and protecting us. They make us meet our raw spaces with kindness. There is a lesson on how ego when not taken care of destroys us. I used to kill every plant I owned. It was sad. Thought I never had a green thumb, unlike my mom who has many beautiful plants indoor and out. Since quarantine, I’m a plant mom newb just learning how to take care of indoor plants. So far my 3 plants have survived 2 months with me 😆. I’m in awe of this home by @sonia.growingajungle. This plant mom—I aspire to be like someday! Do you have any online plant stores you recommend? And I welcome any suggestions on which (easy-care) plants I should buy and any plant mom tips you have! 💚

We look backward, but energetically move up and forward, not dwelling on what has already come to pass. True presence is seeing, but not equating your identity with the seen. • Trusting the process with kinetic intention has helped me see that having faith is not about the mountain or the sea, but about how we connect to all things. Disidentification with the physical form and instead integrating our perception with it instead is what gives us hope — an eager expectation. • What is your “mountain” to move? WHEN IS ENOUGH ENOUGH?! As I scroll through the "wonderful" world of social media tonight I see... A white woman called the cops on Christian Cooper, a black man in Central Park for bird watching, a situation that could have escalated to another R.I.P. in front of a black man's name! In the same social media feed, I watch as a white cop kneels on the back of the neck of a black man. And this black man is begging, pleading and crying out for him to stop, and repeatedly saying "I CAN'T #BREATHE" until he loses consciousness and is later pronounced dead at the hospital. That black man was #GeorgeFloyd. Story sound familiar? That's because six years ago, the black man's voice that still echoes in our ears saying "I CAN'T BREATHE" was Eric Garner. When is enough enough? When I haven't caught my #BREATH from Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Sean Reed and countless others! When is enough enough? When everyday we try to find a way to keep BREATHING through the pain of this upsetting and sad reality that we live in! When is enough enough? When I'm saddened and terrified some days to know that I am raising my beautiful black son in this cruel world where I will worry if he gets pulled over by a cop, if he goes out for a jog, or goes to the corner store to buy a bag of Skittles and an Arizona iced tea, if he wears a hoodie, if he's playing in a park, if he's driving a car or even sitting in the passenger seat of a car... the list goes on and on and it's sickening and disappointing. When is enough enough? We are living in a time of unprecedented stress, as a pandemic sweeps the nation and a virus threatens to deprive each of us of our BREATH of life. But that lies no excuse when what happened to Eric Garner in 2014 took place in a time of health and prosperity. NO EXCUSE! When is enough enough? Can we relentlessly demand answers and reforms after the death of yet another black man who spent his last BREATH pleading with a policeman to let him BREATHE? What is it going to take?
