The Japanese conditioning post also known as the Makiwara is great for conditioning and strengthening the wrists. A lot of arts such as kickboxing tend to use gloves to hit the bag or striking posts with but in traditional karate we use the bare hands! Karate means “empty hand”. So we must make them strong! This training is also to focus on hitting with the 2 big knuckles as a lot of people do not know how to throw a correct punch and just take big swings! Makiwara training, bare knuckle heavy bag training, push ups on the 2 big knuckles and bare knuckle sparring is what we tend to do to make the fists strong👊🏼🥋 My theory is that in the street will I have big 16Oz gloves on? NO! So my fists must be strong in case a real situation arises!

Is there a maximum amount of protein that you can absorb in one sitting? - 20g? 30g? 🤔 - The reality is that we have a virtually unlimited capacity to *absorb* protein - virtually all ingested protein can be absorbed by healthy humans (Jackson & McLaughlin, 2009). 😊 (*Absorption: passage of nutrients through the gut, through the intestinal wall into circulation into the blood) - What people mean, is will protein over 20-30g be useful for muscle building? 🤷‍♀️ And, is under 20-30g useless? - According to the research, it seems there is a ceiling on Muscle Protein Synthesis (MPS: the muscle repair process): meaning, increasing protein past a point *doesn't* increase MPS. (Morton et al, 2015). - The literature indicates that past 20-30g protein p/meal, there is no further benefit, showing a 20-30g intake of protein post-exercise to be just as effective as 40-90g(!) in stimulating an MPS response. - So, it looks like we get all of the anabolic benefits of protein from 20-30g p/meal. 💪 (Additional protein that does not contribute to MPS is oxidised = used for energy). - Your protein requirements p/meal will depend on the size of the person - more muscle = bigger protein requirements! 🔑 A good rule of thumb is 0.4g p/kg bodyweight per meal (0.18g p/lb) as a reasonable upper limit. - Remember that protein requirements do increase with age, due to the well-established phenomenon, Anabolic Resistance. So, an older trainee may need more protein to achieve the maximal MPS response. - Note: Studies are short term rather than long-term observations of muscle hypertrophy over time - in the real world, large boluses of protein don't seem to negatively impact muscle building or lean mass preservation (Soeters et al, 2009). - The *most* important factor is total daily protein intake - if you're looking to be optimal, spreading your protein over 4-5 meals p/day, hitting 20-40g p/meal (depending on your size!) is a sensible rule of thumb. - But, if you're slightly under or over this protein recommendation weight lip/meal... it's probably not going to make or break your muscle mass! 🙌

Prep talk • Prep face incoming… 💀 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Met de focus op een nieuw wedstrijdseizoen ben ik in november gestart met mijn prep. Dit betekent zwaar blijven trainen en en flinke drop in mijn dagelijkse calorie inname. Niet dat ik nu heel laag zit, maar in bulk hebben we de kcal. juist ver omhoog gepusht. Het doel is nu om rustig te zakken in vetpercentage en zoveel mogelijk spiermassa te behouden. 🚀 We zijn nu ruim 2 maanden verder, 5kg lichter en ik schat nog ongeveer 6kg te gaan. Ik kan nog altijd de dingen eten die ik graag eet en hoef geen uren cardio te doen. Buiten dat er dagen zijn met een gigantisch honger gevoel mag ik zeker niet klagen. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ik zie vooral mijn gezicht met de dag smaller worden en heb het 24/7 koud.. 🥶 Ja dat begint blijkbaar nu al. Work to be done, maar ik loop mooi op schema en ben blij met waar ik nu sta. Nog 13 weken te gaan om een betere shape op het NK neer te zetten. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ En het EK? Een jaar geleden ging ik voor de ervaring naar het EK. Nu wil ik erheen om te winnen. Natuurlijk.. wie niet. Die top 6 was zó dichtbij vorig jaar.🤞 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Denk jij erover om een wedstrijd te gaan doen? Ik heb een paar plekken vrij voor wedstrijd coaching. Bien courir même en Hiver? Oui c'est possible! Si toi aussi tu as laissé tomber le footing à l'extérieur cette saison à cause du froid et un corps qui ne récupère pas aussi facilement on vas partager avec toi les bonnes astuces qui vont te redonner envie de t'y remettre 1) Bien s'habiller: En hiver on a du mal à savoir comment s'habiller pour courir... Notre conseil c'est de vous habiller comme s'il faisait 5 à 10 degrés plus chaud car notre température corporelle va augmenter pendant le footing. Essaie aussi d'alterner des couches légères de vêtements que tu pourras retirer si besoin :D 2) Bien s'échauffer: Notre corps et nos muscles ont beaucoup plus de mal à s'échauffer avec le froid, alors avant de sortir courir, fais quelques étirements dynamiques pour préparer ton corps et éviter toute blessure 3) Une fois ton footing terminé, retire au plus vite tes vêtements humides pour éviter le refroidissement et n'oublie pas de boire (de préférence de l'eau tiède avec des électrolytes) pour te réhydrater et te préparer pour le reste de la journée Pour plus d'astuces et conseils visite notre blog sur www.goprot.com/blog
