Halfway through the month. ☕ My goodness, I never realized how good this would make me feel! In addition, how much calmer I am with the kids. I used to think I "needed" a drink to relax after the kids went to bed, that I "deserved" that glass of wine or two. So, on Dec 31, I told the hubs that I was going to stop drinking alcohol for all of January. I thought he'd laugh, instead he offered to join me in the challenge! Talk about support! Goals!! One MAJOR key that is overlooked with any weight loss plan... 🤯 Losing weight, in theory, is super simple. It's a basically just a calculation! 🤓 Calories in must be LESS THAN calories out! (Cue all the calculators 📝) With this being said, figuring out your calories OUT can kinda be a pain in the ass... So many different things contribute to this!! - how active you are at work, - how many times you went to the gym, - how long your walks are with you dog, - what phase you're in with your menstrual cycle, - what kinds of food you're filling your calories with..⠀Now, I'm not wearing these orange glasses to just look hella cute. 🤩 These blue light blocking goggles are a key helper to enhancing your sleep cycle, because what is the one thing majorly overlooked in a weight loss plan? Sleep is the most overlooked aspect of health. I woke up this morning bright eyed & bushy tailed (what am I, a fucking rabbit?), ready to take on the world or at the very least my Sunday to-do list all thanks to a good night of rest. After a good night's sleep, I feel like I can accomplish anything. After a poor night of sleep, I'm lucky if I don't drown in my cereal bowl. Sleep is such a key component of health, but one of the first places people turn to find more time in the day, increase productivity & "hack" their life. Unfortunately, you can't hack your way around sleep & the "sleep when you die" mantra is one that's ill served. Sleep is unavoidable. It's a necessity that even over hundreds of thousands of years of evolution, we haven't been able to get rid of. It's where our growth mentally & physically occurs. Many people choose to cut sleep, going to bed late or waking up earlier, while others struggle to fall & stay asleep. Those who struggle to find quality sleep typically say that their mind races & they can't shut it off. While it can be hard to wind down after a long and/or stressful day, it's important to do so if you want to sleep well & achieve optimal health. Here are some strategies to help: 1. Avoid electronics & stimulating activities an hour before bed 2. Limit alcohol & water consumption 2 hours before bed 3. Find relaxing activities to help calm down like reading, yoga/stretching, deep breathing, meditation, etc If you still can't seem to chill out enough to fall asleep, perform what what I call a brain dump. A brain dump is an chance to hit save on all those thoughts running through your head by writing them down to tackle another day. START THE DAY WITH A HEALTHY MINDSET. #helloproteinshake For me it is becoming increasingly easy to make delicious healthy food choices (a healthy mindset), whether that’s a shake for breakfast or selecting a healthy meal in a restaurant when eating out. I do this for the majority of the time (80:20) but it’s very easy to fall spectacularly ‘off the wagon’ - particularly over the Xmas holiday period. After the birth of my son, I struggled with sleep. I struggled to fall asleep, and I struggled to stay asleep. I started taking Ambien about 10 years ago but I never liked how groggy and sluggish I felt in the mornings. I really couldn’t sleep without it so I thought my options were limited...Until a friend introduced this little bottle to me! 🙌🏼🌿 After a few days, I was sleeping better than I had in years. Feeling it at the end of a busy week! I have been finding it hard to get the kids back into the school routine after the relaxed Christmas period. Similar to me they are resisting normal bedtimes and lack of treats! I have found that in times of stress or struggle with them using a ‘calm down corner’ helpful. Using a breathing ball as a prop and distraction for them to take some long slow breaths can help them... and us!
