How does YOUR body react to certain foods?⁣ ⁣ In the last decade I have really started to pay more attention to how my body reacts to certain foods. I can tell you exactly how much of certain foods I can typically eat before I will get some type of adverse reaction.⁣ ⁣ I have not been diagnosed with any food intolerances (and yes even healthy foods can cause a reaction in people) but I do know after testing out many dairy products that since I was 5 months pregnant with Addison, my body no longer tolerates more than about 4 ounces of dairy a day.⁣ ⁣ So here I am living in Italy, surrounded by cheeses and having to find cheese labeled Senza Lattosio - meaning lactose free, which can be a bit of a struggle sometimes. The thing is, the dairy (even not labeled lactose free) in Europe doesn't give me as bad digestive issues as the dairy in the US. That says A LOT!!⁣ ⁣ Many times we have food sensitivities and don't even know it because we aren't paying attention to the small signs of feedback our body is giving us. This is one of the first things I teach the women I work with 🤓 There's only one person that can tell you what's good for you. Look in the mirror, that's her. Transparency moment: I've been struggling with some health and general lifestyle things lately. All of which has made me feel like a not-so-good nutritional therapy practitioner. For while, it made me less confident in my work and feeling as though I wasn't 'good enough' to help others. This number is significant because a lot of these women didn’t know what a fibroid was prior to their diagnosis so they found themselves in a sense of panic decided what the next step would be in their healing process. This week has not gone as planned. I was so motivated to kick ass at the gym and then the sickness hit. I am exhausted, stuffed up, have a low fever and a headache. I haven’t gone to the gym once. The one thing I will pay myself on the back for is eating good. I’m frustrated that I haven’t made it to the gym but I keep telling myself that I am giving my body what it clearly needs, a break. Here I am as a pregnant lady.⁠ ⁠ Anyways, I wanted to touch on chance of conception today. These percentages are not exact, but give you a good idea. You have about a 50% chance of conceiving if you have unprotected sex on one of the few days leading up to your Peak Day. Remember, sperm can live up to five days, so if you have unprotected sex three, four, five days before you actually ovulate, you can still get pregnant. If you have unprotected sex on your Peak Day (which you won't know you did until the day after..this is why LH strips are a great tool), you have about a 66% chance of conceiving. Peak+1 drops down to a 44% chance, Peak+3 gives you a 20% chance, and finally, P+3 (your last fertile day of the cycle) drops all the way down to an 8% chance.⁠ ⁠ For those that were charting when they got pregnant, what day was your Peak Day that cycle and what day did you have sex on in regards to your Peak Day?⁠ ⁠ For my husband and I, we had unprotected sex the day before my Peak Day, so statistically speaking, there was a 50/50 shot at conception for us! Of course, there are so many factors that play into these numbers, so please don't take these numbers as absolute.

(1) DRINK YOUR WATER- Our body is 55-60% water! Make sure you are hydrating with water and NOT just sugary drinks and juices! (2) BUILD MUSCLE - The more muscle you have, the higher your Metabolism will be! More muscle mass = Higher Metabolism at rest! (3) WHOLE FOODS- Eating nutrient rich foods and good whole Complex Carbs, is extremely beneficial for not only your Health in general but your Metabolism as well! The more nutrient dense your food is, the more energy it takes for your body to break it down and use that food for fuel and more energy (This is what we call TEF). Foods high in Fiber and Protein are so helpful with this! (4) PROTEIN- Protein is crucial! Your body can not build muscle without the proper nutrients to do so! PROTEIN is essential for Muscle growth and repair! Also again, Protein has a high TEF, aiding In energy used as your body works to break down and digest. (5) MOVE YOUR BODY- This doesn’t mean you have to workout intensely seven days a week or spend hours in the gym. I WOULD NEVER recommend that for anyone! BUT, MOVE! If you don’t have time to get to the gym today, that’s FINE! WALK outside, heck WALK in your house! JUST MOVE throughout your day! Being intentional with moving your body as the day goes on, is another big key! YOU WERE MADE TO MOVE! (6) HIIT- An added HIIT workout here and there (NOT DAILY) can be very beneficial when done correctly! (7) EATING ENOUGH! - Don’t fall into the “restrict and starve yourself and you’ll lose the weight” mentality. NO! FOOD IS FUEL! If your body isn’t receiving enough energy, it’s going to slow your Metabolism down in order to conserve the energy it’s not getting enough of. Our body is outstanding at knowing what it needs! LISTEN TO IT! Your body is just going to hold on tighter and burn less Fat for you, if you do not fuel it in a healthy and sustainable way. (8) SLEEP- Quality and Amount of sleep MATTERS!!! Sleep is very underestimated. Our body works to repair, recharge, synthesize hormones, rebuild, etc. all during sleep. This is crucial for your health in every way! Look for areas you can aid in your sleep quality and sleep amount the nights you DO have control to do so.

Tip for emerging from menstruation with ease and wisdom! — . If we are able to rest while we bleed, we often emerge with loads of energy! But where do we put it??!! This is often where we can feel scattered and overwhelmed and then we may not channel this beautiful energy anywhere. In some people, this stuck energy can manifest as anxiety. . So here’s my tip for you .. at the end of your bleed when your energy begins to rise but you still have your blood wisdom (approx days 3 or 4), make a plan for where to channel your energy wisely and gently. . Plan for what you want to accomplish throughout your whole cycle, and how you want to do it. If your whole cycle feels like too much, then perhaps just focus on the 1 week after your bleed, outlining your priorities, but also planning out time for physical activity to move and release energy. Have you ever tried getting noticeable abs by doing tons of crunches? Or done 100's of arm curls to remove a bit of excess fat? It's a common thought that you should exercise the areas you want results on. While workouts targeting certain areas will show off over time they are never the first place on your body you'll notice a change. Your fat cells will start to deplete in a ratio similar to how it's stored on your body (men is usually in the stomach most, women is usually in the thighs). Don't get discouraged when exercising if you aren't getting the results you are expecting in certain areas. Brittle Nails And Hair - A Sign of Poor Digestion 🛑 Like your entire body, your hair and nails need nutrients to grow and stay strong. Poor digestion (not absorbing nutrients, lack of minerals or healthy fat in the diet) can show up as many signs in the body. Prior to improving my diet, I was always looking for that miracle 💅 that would strengthen my nails and stop them from pealing and breaking. Now my nails are strong and I my problem is having to cut them so often. FYI... yes that’s a giant (inedible) mushroom.

I learned something new today...a few days ago, after working out, I noticed a dent in lefty and completely freaked out. It was visible and I could feel it. I thought I had somehow or other dented my implant! I got in to see my surgeon today who checked everything and all is good. He had me close my eyes and feel a part of an implant and it was exactly what I had felt. Turns out, if got a flipper. It likes gymnastics. You got it. Lefty flipped and then somehow flipped itself back. I am sooooooo grossed out, weirded out but find it hilarious. Two mini heart attacks in one week is enough for me! Know your body. If something is off, make whatever appointments you need to. Peace of mind is priceless. I’m gonna go ahead and just say this, I have super boobs and didn’t realize the power of these things! LISTEN TO WHAT YOUR BODY IS TELLING YOU. . We have somehow lost the ability to listen to the cues our body gives us. We often ignore the signs that our physical body sends us throughout the day. . The mind and the physical body are intimately connected. Our physical body maybe stressed, constipated, bloated, tired or weak. In the meanwhile, our brain is shouting ‘Slow down, it’s ok to take a day off, you don’t really need that extra meal, you don’t have to say yes to everything, you will not miss out if you turn your phone off for a few hours’. But we cant hear the mind’s cries for help because we have forgotten how to listen to our body’s signals. . In this modern age, we are bombarded with constant noise and external stimuli. We have information overload, with everybody telling us what is right for us. . The truth however is that nobody cares for your body as much as you do and nobody else knows your body better than you do. Not your mother or your partner and certainly not your doctor. . So take some time out daily to find stillness in your life, so you can hear what your body is advising you and follow that advice. . Don’t just assume your doctor or health professional always know what’s best for you. . Certainly, take all the advice offered, do your research from reliable sources, inform yourself and then determine if what is being offered is what your body needs, be it a pill or an operation. . Picky Eater . Having a picky eater has it challenges! Harper and Daniel ate polar opposites when it comes to eating! Harper has and still is very picky. She wants what she wants and will only eat certain things. Whereas, Daniel hasn't met a food he doesn't want! He eats all day long! Whereas, Harper preferred mommas milk. . I had to pretend to put the bottle by Harper in order for her to open her mouth for me to spoon food in there! Puffs were the gateway that began Harper's eating journey. Once she got a taste of them she then began feeding herself and that was around 10 1/2 months old. Now Daniel has been feeding himself puffs and cheerios since before he was 8 months old! My go to with her to get her daily serving of fruit and veggies are the pouches! She tells me all the time she wants apples! Apples are mixed with other veggies so that makes me very happy! She'll eat a couple a day. In a bind? Not sure how to progress using them?? TRUTH: they are much like a strap, block, or wall... a TOOL to help us deepen and support a well-rounded, and self-supportive practice. 📸📸📸 5-10,000 years ago, a cork block or nylon, strap may not have been accessible at the time. Big surprise. 🤣🤣🤣 But a hand was there, so it takes some exploring with our own body dynamics. It may feel different than it looks, but I am actually pressing my hand down into my thighs, bringing axial extension to my spine, and using my obliques to turn my heart to the “moon” above... HALF-BIND HALF- MOON-POSE 📸📸📸 Moments before the shutter snapped, my fingers were securing balance against the earth, until my kick back was strong enough to support fingers releasing the ground. All options... For all we need to do yoga, is to breathe.
