The first pumpkin of the season is ready to harvest. I think I’ll do that tomorrow- the first day of Autumn (Or Fall for all my gardening pals on the other side of the world). It’s been such a harsh summer. Bush fires, endless smoke haze and hardly any rain at all (Australia is in severe drought)- but Sydney has had some rain, just enough to lift water restrictions a little bit here. And the garden is loving it. The bush fires out mostly out, the air is clean again and the garden is thriving from the recent rain. In fact, I’ve just been out this morning pollinating pumpkins everywhere- from this mystery vine, and from the Kent pumpkins that pop up out of the compost bin. So it looks like we’ll end Summer in not so much of a disaster as it was looking a few weeks ago. Yay!
