Sleep 💤 . Another concept that we are very familiar with, especially now. Sleeping is very important obviously, it gives the mind time to roam free and the body time to recoup. I’ve fallen into toxic cycles with sleep where I get too much and rely on that large amount for too long. I’ve never been much of an all nighter or an early riser. THE BODY KEEPS THE SCORE. . The body is the most magnificent organism that has so many mechanisms in place to keep us safe and alive. One of those mechanisms is our primal response to stress, otherwise known as the fight or flight response which was put in place by the reptilian brain. When we experience danger, like being chased by a tiger, our brain sends signals to our body to elevate cortisol, adrenaline and blood pressure, to tenses muscles, clench the jaw and to experience tightness in the chest or a pit in the belly. The good news is that these days we are rarely chased by tigers, but the bad news is that our body doesn’t know this and is unable to decipher our modern day stress vs. being chased by a wild animal. This is amplified if trauma has been a part of our experience. When a circuit fires, it can become a default setting and causes a response to repeat over and over again unless there is an intervention. . Practices such as yoga, deep breathing and meditation are tools we can use to release us from that fight or flight response and self regulate in the face of stress and triggers. When you listen to your breath and the sensations within your body, you sensitize your awareness and become more receptive to the messages your body sends you. As you become more in tune with those sensations, you realize that you have a built in inner guidance system that is always there to lead and support you. . Self regulating depends on having a friendly relationship with your body. Without it, you have to rely on external regulation. Remember, all of the answers you are seeking are within. . Put your hand on it, lean against it and yes - give it a great big hug and thank it for doing its job. Today was a "I want to eat cookie dough on the couch and forget the day" kind of day. Many emotions from all as we entered day Day 14 of quarantine. It started off with very little sleep and an explosive bang of emotions from the littles and the bigs. We held an emergency family meeting midday to talk about how we can better co-quarantine together. Our family agreement - it is your responsibility to communicate your needs AND your expectations. I’m often asked to lead mindfulness practices in my sessions. I like to start with Soundscaping, you can try it right now wherever you are... 🎼🔥💦🕰🍃 • Take 30+ seconds to tune into sounds around you • Some may be pleasant, unpleasant or neutral but just let them create a soundscape orchestra around you in this moment. ✨✨At this time of Collective Uncertainty don’t forget to look up at the stars each night✨✨ I try to limit my daily news intake to once a day. If i don’t do this then I notice my body feeling massively activated and this doesn’t help me in any way what-so-ever. How many of you are binging on the Covid19 media coverage? How does that make you feel? I’m curious. Right now, more than ever before, we must truly look after our mental and physical wellbeing. Binging on the media isn’t something that will help us stay well ... My once a day news fix yesterday was just before going to bed - not a great idea... When will I learn!? So off I went to bed with a rattling nervous system, because that’s what watching the news does. It rattles your entire NS. Not advisable before bedtime! Anyway, every cloud has a silver lining ... due to my disheveled, unsettled state I woke at 2.30am. Sam heard me moving around the bedroom so he reluctantly woke up too. We decided to sit outside in the peacefulness of our garden. WOW ✨✨✨✨The Stars✨✨✨✨ I’m shitting you not, were the most vibrant I’ve ever seen them. Bright, abundant and absolutely loving it. Just Magical 🌟🌟 🌎 Each day, when we take our one exercise outing, observe these obvious changes around us. Observe nature, drink in as much fresh air as you possibly can. If you’re glued to the constant daily news updates, maybe try taking a day or two off to witness if you feel better. Right now, more than ever before, we must really look after ourselves as to not crush our wonderful NHS. To not cripple our resources. There are so many resources around us that will help us feel better. The Senses, Space, Time, The Breath, are just a few of mine right now. Take care people. And please share whatever positive resources have helped you better cope these past few days. As a way of maybe helping somebody else 💟🙏🏽

Love listening to @drcarolineleaf podcast on youtube. First heard her at a Chosen conference here in San Antonio and have read some of her books. I like to listen to her when I am feeling anxious because she constantly reminds me that our thoughts shape our reality and our thoughts change our brains. How can one provide co-regulation for infants and toddlers? . 💗 By providing love, and warmth . 👋🏼A gentle touch . 🍼 By taking care of their needs . 🏠 by adjusting and changing the environment and surroundings to decrease the level of stress and anxiety. . 👶🏼 babies need more emotional and physical comfort . 🧸 Some babies and toddlers love to have a favourite toy or a blanket and they like to carry it around.
