Join Beth Morris at Pure Yoga Asheville for a TCTSY Trauma Sensitive Yoga December series. Curious about possibly exploring what it might feel like to make choices in and about your body not based on survival? This series is experiential only - meaning it is not a training. Series meets on Saturdays from 4-5 p.m. This practice is accessible to all and no former yoga experience is required. It is from December 7-21st and cost is $75. Beth is a certified TCTSY-F with the Center for Trauma and Embodiment at JRI out of Boston, MA with David Emerson. TCTSY is an evidence-based, adjunctive clinical treatment endorsed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA.) It is the only yoga program of it’s kind to be named an empirically validated methodology for using mindful movement techniques to facilitate the healing process of complex trauma symptoms, or chronic, treatment-resistant PTSD. 🤓☝🏽 The techniques that will be selected for our upcoming practice will emphasize, for example: ~ regulation and balancing of carbon dioxide and oxygen levels in the system. It is important for avoidance of such extreme conditions as asthma, hyperventilation, hypoxia; ~ providing brain and heart muscle with nutriments by cleansing and improving blood and oxygen circulation; ~ lungs cleanse, right and left energy channels cleanse; ~ strengthening of blood vessels, heart muscle and lungs; ~ brain cortex, right and left hemispheres activation; ~ working out pectoral muscles (chest), intercostal muscles (between ribs), thoracic spine muscles (upper body), diaphragm. Through deep relaxation we will be elongating and strengthening the muscles of this area; ~ working on thoracic spine mobility, opening up the space between the vertebrae and releasing all the pressure. This will prevent squeezing, pinching and protrusion of intervertebral discs and prevent herniation. 🎓👓 🧐 To truly understand is to feel! I can go on describing endlessly all the mechanisms and processes that our yoga practice will create on a physical, energetic and emotional level. But more than words and terminology the practices speak for themselves. The words will not gift such effect and result. Only getting personal experience it is possible to truly know and understand the mechanisms and processes activated on the session by yoga. Hay diferentes estudios que hablan de la importancia de las relaciones íntimas para prolongar nuestras habilidades cognitivas a largo plazo. El estudio Grant, realizado a lo largo de 80 años por investigadores de la Universidad de Harvard, sentencia que las relaciones cercanas son lo que mantienen a las personas felices 😀 2️⃣Experimenta gratitud, tanto como puedas. Elizabeth Carter dijo que “ser felices significa ser agradecidos”. Y mucho antes Cicerón ya había afirmado que “la gratitud es la madre de todas las virtudes”. La gratitud alivia la depresión, reduce el estrés, mejora la autoestima y promueve el bienestar psicológico. 🙏 3️⃣ 3. Practicar el mindfulness, aquí y ahora. Hoy he hecho Yoga, me he puesto a meditar, prestando atención a las partes de mi cuerpo. Pero en lugar de estar quieta, que eso me dispersa bastante, era moviéndome (No recuerdo cómo se llama este tipo Yoga, porque hay varios, pero muy enriquecedor) AYUDA MUCHÍSIMO para mantener a raya a la ANSIEDAD, al ESTRÉS y la DEPRESIÓN. Sutra 3.1 is another mantra I love to use in meditation; Loosely translated, "Concentration is the binding of the mind to one fixed point". 🔥 Meditation can improve when you find a form of stillness practice that works for you 🔥 For me, it's Trataka meditation 🔥 Trataka is a yogic purification (satkarma) and tantric method of meditation that involves staring at a single point such as a single flame. When the eyes begin to water, the body is detoxifying; Strengthening the eyes, energizing the Third Eye and connection to higher consciousness among other benefits 🔥 Typically, closing my eyes in community yoga class gives me anxiety. My partner tells me I sleep with my eyes open. Hypervigilence, maintaining an abnormal awareness of environmental stimuli, is prominent for those with post-traumatic stress (PTSD). 🔥 Fire has this magical ability to captivate and consume attention. Like sitting around a campfire. It feels natural to incorporate this element into my personal practice. 🔥 Stilling the mind can be practiced in so many ways. Play around with what connects you to consciousness.
